YEAR OF THE WOMAN: WRITING FOR CHANGE

We’ve called it: 2018 is the Year of the Woman. This year, the world felt the impact of women speaking and writing their truth. The #metoo hashtag movement wrought an avalanche of unstoppable change. Time Magazine named “The Silence Breakers” as Person of the Year, and Merriam-Webster recognized “feminism” as Word of the Year. In advance of the upcoming 2018 Women’s March in Los Angeles, we will celebrate women writers in a special Angels Flight • literary west salon focused on female empowerment and change through writing. We’re thrilled to present a lineup of 10 incredible women writers.

Literary Events in Los Angeles for the week of December 18, 2017

LitLifeLA December 18 2017
There’s not much in the way of readings this week, so I’m taking a moment to look ahead to January and invite all the book lovers out there to buy tickets to the Open Book Series event with Percival Everett in Pasadena on January 24th.

Everett’s most recent book “So Much Blue” is on my list of best books of the year (which I’ll be posting next Wednesday) and I’m not the only one to love it. The book has topped a lot of lists, and the guy has written something like 30 books. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say about his latest work and life as a writer in general.

Tickets are $65 and the money raised goes through the Pasadena Literary Alliance to literacy programs in the area. (Full disclosure, I often volunteer with the Open Book Series, but I am not an affiliate, which is to say, I don’t get any money from tickets sold – just the satisfaction of supporting an awesome group and the amazing writers they bring to the stage.)

Hope to see you there!
