Several times a week I write with an online mindful writers group called A Very Important Meeting.
We meditate for 10 minutes, then shift directly into a quiet writing session that lasts 45 minutes. When the hour is up, we either log off and keep writing or hang out for a bit.
It has been such an important part of my writing life, both creatively and emotionally. Having other writers to meet up with keeps me motivated and helps me to feel less alone (especially while we’re all social distancing). We have writers from San Diego to New York, Australia to the Netherlands.
Things to know:
- Everyone is welcome.
- This is not a critique group.
- We don’t give prompts. Everyone just brings their WIP.
- We don’t read our work out loud to the group.
- You don’t need to have any experience meditating. The meditations we lead are entirely secular. We simply practice mindfulness as a way to focus our minds before writing.
If you’ve never tried meditation, this is a great opportunity to experience how focusing the mind can lead to some really productive writing.
If you’re an experienced meditator, this is a wonderful way to connect with other like-minded writers.
See you there!
